The Melfort Mustangs are managing financially following a good last season, in spite of the serious challenges caused by COVID restrictions and an early end to play this spring.
“We feel that we were sitting in a pretty good financial position going into the playoffs last season,” said Chad Elliott, president of the board of directors. “The playoffs are usually our carrot that gives us the extra we need to get through to the next season.”
The team was able to access some COVID grant funding but Elliott says the single biggest factor in the team’s financial success is the city and its people.
“It’s because of our community. That’s one of our biggest supports. We’re a community run team and the community year in and year out step up and help,” he said.
That takes the form of corporate sponsorships, billet homes for the players, and the fans and season ticket holders.
“We’re very thankful we have the people surrounding us that keep this team moving forward every year,” said Elliott.
