May is KidSport month and the Melfort organization had a great year in 2018. The organization helps children to be an able to participate in sports and always receives great support from Melfort and area.

“We are supported well by the community of Melfort,” Mike Lang, president of the KidSport committee said.

Donations this year came from the Melfort Kinsmen, RBC and other individuals and groups.

This year the annual Stinky Shoe bowling event raised $3000 for the organization. There was also $1,800 donated through Goals for KidSport. The organization also receives funding  from KidSport Saskatchewan.

KidSport supports players in hockey, figure skating, skiing, karate, bowling, baseball/softball, soccer, swimming, lacrosse and other sports.

Melfort KidSport helps children participate in sports who wouldn’t normally have that opportunity.

“Our Melfort committee deals with children that attend school in Melfort, they attend here most of them do live in Melfort,” Lang said.

Lang explained that the organization has been quite busy this year helping out a large number of children participating in sports.

The organization has grown over the past few years with more children in Melfort using it to help them have the opportunity to participate in sports.

In 2018 the organization gave a total of $$13,103 to 54 players in Melfort and area. This included one each in basketball, football, equestrian and volleyball, two in taekwondo and lacrosse, four in softball, 10 in soccer, 11 in hockey and 14 in figure skating.
