The Melfort Mustangs made a pair of deals ahead of the January 10 SJHL Trade Deadline acquiring one defenseman while moving out another.
On Tuesday January 7 the Mustangs announced that they had acquired 2000-born Defenceman Vaclav Prospal from the Sherwood Park Crusaders of the AJHL in exchange for a Player Development Fee (PDF).
Prospal born in Ottawa, Ontario, has ties to the Czech Republic, Canada and the United States.
Prospal, the son of former NHL player Vaclav Prospal, played five games with the Sherwood Park Crusaders this year picking up an assist.
He spent last season in the Czech Republic with the Motor Ceske Budejovice U20, where he played 39 games, scoring four goals to go with six assists for 10 points. Before his time in Europe, the defenceman spent two years in the Tampa Scorpions program in the NAPHL playing in 22 games and scoring eight points.
The Mustangs swung a second trade on Tuesday sending 2001-born Defenceman Colby Brett to the Kindersley Klippers.
