Mustangs open home-stand with win over Bombers

The Melfort Mustangs began an important five game home-stand with an important 3-2 win over the Sherwood Division leading Flin Flon Bombers on Wednesday, February 13. Kyle Bosch scored the winning goal with 1:49 remaining in the game.

The Mustangs led 1-0 after the first period and the game was tied 2-2 after the second period.

Alex Rondeau and Seth McCullough scored the other Melfort goals.

Donovan Houle-Villeneuve and Tristan Lemyre responded for the Bombers.

The Mustangs’ Shawn Parkinson made 27 saves; Jacob Delorme of the Bombers made 28 saves.

The win pushes the Mustangs into third place in the Sherwood Division with a record of 25-16-6-3 with 59 points, ahead of the La Ronge Ice Wolves with an identical 59 points by the tie-breaker. They are a single point behind the second place Nipawin Hawks.

The Mustangs currently sit in fifth place overall in the SJHL.

Melfort continues their home-stand against the Melville Millionaires on Saturday, February 16 at the Northern Lights Palace, game time is 7:30 p.m.
