It didn’t take long after the SJHL announced a Friday, October 23 start date for teams to announce schedules.

The Nipawin Hawks and Melfort Mustangs will face off in a series of four exhibition games, starting Friday in Nipawin. They then go to Melfort on Saturday and repeat the following weekend.

In Humboldt, the Broncos will take on the Notre Dame Hounds in another four-game pre-season series.

Play starts in Humboldt on October24, goes to the Hounds’ rink on October 26 then repeats on October 31 and November 1.

In a media release issued October 16, the SJHL said teams are scheduling exhibition games to be played between now and Nov. 1. The schedule is expected to be released to the public “as soon as possible.”

Fans will be required to wear masks while in the arena and a maximum of 150 fans will be allowed to attend. The league did not specify what safety precautions will be in place for teams.

The league previously said it would have a start date “once protocols and the arenas’ abilities to handle fans are satisfactory to (Saskatchewan) Government/Health.”

The attendance cap of 150 is in line with guidelines released by the Saskatchewan Hockey Association.

According to the SHA, tournaments will not be allowed, and out-of-province travel is banned. Teams outside Saskatchewan are not allowed to cross the border to play.

The SJHL’s Manitoba-based Flin Flon Bombers have been granted an exemption, and will play in the league this season because of how close they are to the border.
