Nipawin native and hockey player Taran Kozun will be heading south of the border for hockey this fall.
The Kansas City Mavericks announced on October 28 that they had sign rookie goaltender Kozun.
Kozun, a six-foot-one, 175-pound, 26-year-old goalie is from Nipawin and has followed the footsteps of his brother, former Maverick Tad Kozun, to Kansas City
Tad played left wing for the Mavericks in part of the 2019/2020 season before moving to the Orlando Solar Bears.
Both brothers at one point had donned the yellow and black jerseys of the Nipawin Hawks.
Taran joins Kansas City after finishing his collegiate career at the University of Saskatchewan.
“Taran has been the best goalie in Canadian University Hockey for two years in a row now,” Mavericks Head Coach and Director of Hockey Ops Tad O’Had said. “With back-to-back USport Goalie of the Year Honors, he has earned All-Canadian First Team Honors as well as MVP and Player of The Year Honors in 2019-2020.
